OFF - GRID SOLAR SYSTEMS

An off-grid solar system (off-the-grid, standalone) is the obvious alternative to one that is grid-tied. To ensure access to electricity at all times, off-grid solar systems require battery storage and a backup generator (if you live off-the-grid). GRID CONNECTED SOLAR POWER SYSTEM

A grid connected system as the name suggests is the one in which your solar power system is connected to the local main grid. In this case, your loads can run on solar power as long as there is sufficient energy available from the sun during the day. Any deficit is taken care by the main utility supply. However, if the solar energy production is in excess as compared to the load requirement at that moment, the excess energy can be either stored in the batteries or can be transferred back to the utility grid for net-metering. This difference of energy can be tracked using a bidirectional net meter connected to your solar PV system.

SOLAR ELECTRICITY (HYBRID)

Hybrid solar system combines the best of both worlds: the convenience of a grid connected system - including the ability to have power in the absence of solar & grid un avaibility - with the extra peace of mind of a battery backup for continuous uninterruptable power. This means that even during a power blackout, you still have electricity. Hybrid Solar PV System with battery storage is much cheaper than power from diesel generators (DG Sets). Combining energy storage with a grid connection to your property, hybrid systems can provide the flexibility of being able to store the energy you generate during the day instead of feeding it back into the grid. This energy can then be used in the night instead of buying power back at a higher price.

SOLAR STREET LIGHT

Solar streetlight is a stand-alone solar system consisting of a pole, battery bank, photovoltaic module and LED or CFL luminaries. The use of solar power coupled with energy-efficient luminaries make this doubly environment friendly. The configuration can be customized to the wattage and brightness required and it can be designed for dusk to dawn operations with the required number of days of autonomy. These solar lighting systems offer an environment friendly and economical option to light up streets, boulevards, highways, yards, compounds, parks, boundary walls, car parking areas, military and civilian security installations, airports, ports or indeed, any public space.

SOLAR WATER PUMPS

Solar water pumps can supply water to locations which are beyond the reach of power lines. Commonly, such places relied on human or animal power or on diesel engines for their water supply (Omer, 2001). Solar water pumps can replace the current pump systems and result in both socio-economic benefits as well as climate related benefits. The water supplied by the solar water pump can be used to irrigate crops, water livestock or provide potable drinking water. A solar water pump system is essentially an electrical pump system in which the electricity is provided by one or several Photovoltaic (PV) panels. A typical solar powered pumping system consists of a solar panel array that powers an electric motor, which in turn powers a bore or surface pump. The water is often pumped from the ground or stream into a storage tank that provides a gravity feed, so energy storage is not needed for these systems. A typical installation is illustrated in fig.
